Lets Swap Links

Having just completed my cottage website and feeling pretty pleased with myself, it suddenly dawned on me that despite spending over a year of blood sweat and tears tweaking, testing and teaching myself new tricks ( this old dog is almost 64 and still learning ) it could all be to no avail.  The life blood of any website as we all know is traffic and getting that traffic is no mean feat.  One of the main criteria for ranking with the big G is inbound links from related sites.  If your site is new and hasn't started ranking, how are you going to exchange links with established sites?   I'm sure many of you with holiday cottage websites have the same problem.  If you'd like to exchange links with me, I'd be more than happy.  Yeah I know we're all doing more or less the same thing and you might think it ...

Ingleton

The Yorkshire Dales is an area of outsatnding natural beauty which unlike the neighbouring Lake District, has been vitually untouched by mass tourism. The Dales area is home to some beautiful villages, Ingleton is a typical example .
Situated about half an hour from Lancaster, it is easy to reach from the M6 motorway. Ingleton is famous for its "falls" a cascading river which winds its way down to the bottom of the town from the surrounding hills. For around a hundred years, people have walked a purpose built path which runs adjacent to the river and passes some spectacular waterfalls on the way up.
Thornton Force At The Top Of The Falls
Ingleton falls are the main attraction for day trippers and are a valuable source of revenue for the village. Not for the ...

Its A Long Way To Cornwall

I'll always remember our first trip to Cornwall back in the late 60's, it took us about 12 hours to drive there in my Dad's old Morris shooting break, the only car I've seen that had wood on the outside.  My Dad had booked a caravan park about half an hour from Looe, I can still  remember the excitement as we entered the park  and were shown to our allocated caravan.  Within the first ten minutes of entering the caravan, my sister who was a baby at the time, had been stung by a wasp and the rest of us were itching because the place was covered in dog hairs.  After complaining, we were given a different caravan which at least was clean.

After this early trauma, we finally settled in and my Dad took us to visit Looe.  He bought my brother and I ...

Highway To Hell With A Buttered Scone And A Cup Of Tea

One of our favourite parts of the UK is the area of the Yorkshire Dales near Ingleton. We used to have a caravan on a site between Bentham and Ingleton and spent many happy days there when the kids were young.  We often return and have promised ourselves that one day we'll buy a cottage where we can spend our retirement.

As we get older, we are content to browse around markets, visit museums and sit watching the world go by, a far cry from the rock and roll days of our youth.  I'm sure that even our old rock star heroes have reached a similar stage of their lives, Mark Knopfler's heavy heavy fuel has probably become a meat pie and a bag of crisps. I may be wrong but I'm sure I spotted Ozzy Osbourne feeding the ducks in our local park and even the ...

A Cottage Holiday In Kirkby Lonsdale By John Brassey

Kirkby Lonsdale Churchyard

A couple of months ago a flyer popped through our letter box advertising a newly renovated holiday cottage in Kirkby Lonsdale. We weren't planning a break but the cottage looked so nice that we thought we would give it a try. So we booked for  four nights a couple of months ago. It's not far to travel and the scenery in the area is pleasant. It was a good decision. Being situated within a stone's throw of the ancient church, our cottage was in the heart of this pleasant little market town which made such a refreshing change from country cottages in the middle of nowhere. The town has a lot of excellent restaurants and pubs so it was easy to just pop out to one or to an inn or hotel for a bite to eat, ...
